My GE profile quietpower 7 has a case of the "Christine". The heater element turns on and doesn't turn off. Yesterday I noticed a burning smell and found some melted plastic ware on the top shelf. I turned it off and left the door open overnight. This morning I checked that it was still turned off and closed the door. As soon as I closed the door the heater element came back on. I've now noticed that in addition to melting my dishes it also melted the lower spray arm.

Any recommendations on repairs?

You will probably have to join the site but it is a great resource for the appliance DIYer.

It could be the temperature sensor but I doubt it.
It sounds more like the heater relay's contacts on the control board are welded together.

I do not know if the following recall/situation could also cause the heater to run continuously but they do mention a short circuit in a plug. You may want to investigate this further.

Denman, thanks for your help. The manual helped, after resetting power it stopped overheating. I'll replace the melted spray arm and then keep an eye on it.
