Our KitchenAid Superba 21 floods the kitchen floor at times. It appears that the water does not shut off at the float when it should and it overflows and drips out making a mess. Otherwise it seems to work fine. This is an older model installed new around 1986. We observed that the switch at the bottom of the float went up slowly and did not go up all the way. Could this be the problem?

Check if the float moves freely up and down. If not, then pull it out and clean the float and the standpipe. If the switch is slow by itself then replace the switch. - The part number for the switch is AP4357378 Here are the break down diagrams for the Kitchen Aid dishwasher Model KDS21Gene.
