I have attempted to follow the threads for checking the defrost thermostat, timer and heater. I have performed the following:

1. Replaced the timer and verified proper jumper position.
2. Verified resistance for the defrost thermostat in both the frozen (closed) and ambient temperature range (open) to confirm opening and closing of the contacts.
3. Verified resistance of the heater coil at approximately 22 ohms.

I am still having issues with the refrigerator not coming out of defrost mode and when checking the frame between the frig and freezer doors, it is warm to the touch and the outside back compressor lines are extremely hot. If I turn the control to off and then back on in 1-2 minutes the compressor cycles back on. I can also tap on the front chasis of the door and cause the compressor to start.

If anyone has further ideas for troubleshooting, please lend me a hand. I am trying to assist my Mother after Dad died.

Sounds like you may have a thermostat that is sticking open (Item 9 in Section 11). As you can see it is before the compressor and the defrost timer in the circuit.

The heat problem is usually dirty condenser coils (under the fridge) or dirty clogged up vents or the compressor/condenser fan not running correctly.

Are you referring to Thermostat Part Number: AP3037004 made by WHIRLPOOL on the Control Diagram.

I'm having the same issue.
I can just tap the temp control lever in the back of the fridge and the compressor starts up (unless it is on defrost cycle).
I did replace the defrost timer already.

Is the part no: AP2061705 for this model?
