I have a problem with the evap. freezing up. I can thaw it out and everything is fine for about 2 weeks. Can anyone tell me how the defrost cycle works? It has an elemnt at the bottom of the evap. but I dont know how it is supposed to work. I am not sure of age because it was used. I do not have any information on how it works. Any help greatly appreciated.

You have the GE refrigerator with the infamous "mother board". It is impossible to put in defrost without expensive equipment.
Pull off your freezer back panel and look at the frost pattern, probably totally frozen. If so, defrost with a hair dryer and check your defrost heater, probably broke. If so, just replace it. You can click on your model # above to order the part.
