:confused:6 year old side-by-side GE. Ice builds up on coils. I replaced two parts but this did not work. So now I am thinking the control board and/or defrost heater. What is strange (or maybe not) is when I open the freezer door the fan goes on. When I close it, it goes off. When I open it again the fan does not go on right away but in a second or so. Is this normal? Maybe I did not pay attention in the past but now that I have problems I am. I have defrosted a few times with a steamer and in 3 to 5 days I have coils with ice. Any thoughts about the fan going on when I open the door and off when I close it? thanks.

Look at the defrost heater, that's the most common part to go out on these GE's. If it's discolored replace it, the subsitute part has two heater bulbs instead of one. Heater harness defHere's your breakdown Model GSS22JEMDWWNat
