Our Hotpoint dishwasher does not have any water coming into the dishwater. I can hear the pump running on start up but no water comes in. I have checked the valve on the hot water line and it is open. Where do I begin and what should I check?

Remove the kick plate and check the overfill switch to make sure it is closed.
Sometimes the float in the tub can stick in the up position, opening the switch and killing power to the water valve.

If switch is OK the easiest way is to measure across the valve to see if it is getting 120 volts when it should.

If it is then either the valve is toast or the filter screen on it's input side is clogged op.

Remove the valve and check/clean the filter screen. Do not permanently remove it from the valve as it is there to keep crud out of the valve which could hold the valve open and cause a flood.
