I need instructions on how to replace the light bulb for the interior microwave oven, not the exterior light that illuminates the range. I called GE answer center and they were totally useless and referred me to their parts department which was closed. Obviously, this is a task that requires some disassembly of the oven since there is no user access panel inside the oven.

You have to take the unit down and remove the outer case.

You can get to it by removing the top vent that opens when your cooking. there are 2 screws on top that hold it on, remove the screws, and with the door open slide the grille to the left then off. You should now be able to get to the bulb. Keep us posted

I need to replace the interior light on my GE Profile under the counter microwave. The manual also states to locate the screws on top and remove the front panel. My microwave doesn't have any screws on top. I'm wondering if it can be changed from inside. The ceiling of the microwave has a plastice type round piece that has and arrow and words open and close. Is it safe to remove that? Seems I read in the manual that none of the interior plastic pieces should be removed. It's been this way for a few months and I'm really tired of not being able to view what's cooking. GE help/support was absolutely no help .

Thanks

There are 3 screws on top of the microwave near the front to remove the grill. After the screw are removed, make sure the door is open and shift the grill slightly to the left to slide the lower tabs in their slots, and pull the grill straight out. Then remove the middle flat (no air vents) access plate. You will not be able to see the light, but if you see where it's located from inside, you see wires go to that box above. Use small fingers to follow the wire until you feel the bulb. Pull the bulb out of the box. Replace the bulb in the socket with a G8 20w xenon bulb. Don't touch the bulb directly, the oils on your hand can make the bulb overheat. Good luck getting the bulb back into the light box. Replace your access panel and grill.
