I have a GE side by side that is 6 years old and a problem for almost a year now. First it quit freezing, I replaced the defrost thermostat, then the evaporator fan would not run. I replaced the motor and it still didn't work. Next I replaced the mother board on the back, I've been told that's a common problem with these GE models. It worked fine for a month and now the freezer coils are icing up. I can defrost them and it will work fine for a few weeks. I don't know if this model has a defrost timer or where to find it if it does. I verified the defrost heater was working the first problem. I have not replaced the temperature sensor. I hate to keep trying parts until I get lucky. Maybe you could direct me to the most likely cause, where to find it and how to check it?

The problem is probably the defrost heater, that's one of the most common parts to go out on these GE's ( Heater harness def) If you remove the rear panel in the freezer you will see the heater below the evaporator coils. If it's out it's usually discolored. Your model does not have a timer, the control board does that. Here's your breakdown Model GSS20IEMBWWNat
