The Cook 'n Vent downdraft for my Thermador RED30V glass-top range/oven cannot retract, because the up/down switch was broken off. I have found the switch mechanism available online, but want to know if replacing the mechanism can be done by a handy amateur. If so, are there any hints on things to watch out for or to avoid? The switch mechanism has the up/down pin on the top and electrical relays (think three of them) on the bottom. Or, let me know if you think a professional appliance repair person should be called in for this one. Thank you!

Most likely you can do it. Just mark the wires where they go as you remove them from the old switch.

Post your model number and we might be able to pull up a breakdown as a visual aide in your repair.

The model number for the Thermador range/oven with the built-in Cook n Vent downdraft is RED30VRS. There is not a separate model number for the downdraft.
