Hello,
My Oven consistently displays an error Code F3. When the problem first occured I was told by my wife, who was useing the oven at the time, that the display flashed some other info and codes but now it is just F3 and she doesn't recall any of the other messages.
I replaced the temperature sensor and the thermal fuse (indicated by the F3 Code) and it didn't fix the problem. I am considering replacing the Control. Since this is a fairly expensive part I wanted to get some advice. Do you think this will correct the problem?
Thanks for your help.
Sincerely,
Rochette

Rochette,
Before replacing the control board I would check the oven temperature sensor wiring harness and eliminate the sensor plug on the back of the oven. Instead of such plugs it is much more reliable to hard wire the sensor using a high temperature wire nuts.

Hello Gene,
Thanks for answering. I did eliminate the plug with the wire nuts. didn't make a difference.
Is there anything else I can do before replacing the control?
What is the likelyhood that replacing the control will fix my problem?
The control costs $140 and is not returnable if it doesn't solve the problem.[

I don't think there is anything else what can be done. The original part has been discontinued by the manufacturer but Sears still sell it reconditioned.
Very likely the new control will fix the problem but I can not guarantee it.

Hello Gene,
Thanks for your reply.
This range is 21 years old.
The control board will cost $140 and can't be returned if I install it and it doesn't fix the problem. Money is tight right now and I would rather not purchase a new range. I would rather not eat the 140 if it doesn't fix the problem either.
If this was you, based on these thoughts, what would you do?
Sincerely,
Rochette

Rochette,
There is a good chance that it will fix the problem.
On an other side, if you do not need a downdraft range and are ready to replace it with a regular electric range, you can get one for much less than a thousand bucks.

Hello Gene,
Thanks again for your help. I do need a downdraft range so, as you know, the cost is significant.
I will let you know what I decide to do and how it works out.
Merry Christmas to you and your family.
Peace,
Rochette
