I have a GE range that has a bad control unit, leaving the oven coming on and staying on.... it won't shut off, and the only way to turn it off is to unplug the stove....
The Control Unit is no longer produced and I cannot get one. I also don't have the expertise to mess with circuit boards. So... I'm not going to fix it.
Here's what I want to do: Unhook the oven in some way so it' safe, but does not come on.... and then use the still functioning cook top. We have a place to use the stove where this would be okay, as we don't need an oven there..... Better than scrapping the whole stove!
How can I safely unhook or bypass or whatever the oven, even though the control unit appears to be telling it to broil away, so that the cooktop can still be used? Any thoughts?

Unplug the range. Remove the bake and broil elements, and cap off the wires to them.
