my dryer runs but it is not heating and has a terrible burnt smell. Any ideas? Should I just repair it or replace it?

I would look at the igniter. It may be burnt out. Are you smelling an electrical burnt smell, or the smell of a flamable material (lint, for example) that has been burnt?

Thanks for the help. We cleaned the lint out (holy moly there the places lint gets to!) and it seemed to be working fine last night. We ran it without clothes. Tonight I will give it the ultimate test with an actual load. If we still have an issue I will check the ignitor.
