I recently replaced the belt on my Amana washer (it was really bad). The new belt has the right number (bought at this site), but seems too loose. I can see the motor spin, but the belt does not. The idler arm appears to be engaged properly and the spring is in place. Is there some other way to tighten the belt?

The belt is loose as it serves as a clutch. I can only suggest you check to see that it is installed correctly through the water pump.

Yes, it is installed correctly; goes through water pump and around inside of idler pully. I find stretching the spring slightly by extending the "hook" point, causes the spin cycle to work. I've ordered a new spring. There were 2 spring choices, one was shorter so I went with it. I hope it will resolve the problem perminantly.
