I recently bought a used GE Profile fridge from someone.

This is how it looks:

http://products.geapplia...Page&Sku=JGB910SECSS

It works well but the metal stem that holds the warmer drawer knob (the small knob in the middle) was broken by the previous owner which is one of the reasons why I got a good discount on the price.

Since I have both ends of the stem, I want to see whether I can take out the warmer drawer switch, which presumably holds one end of the stem. I then plan to go to a person who can weld and get the 2 pieces of the stem welded together. If this cannot happen, then I plan on ordering a new switch.

So my question is this: To get to the switch, do I need to unscrew the front metal panel, which is behind the 5 knobs, at the bottom? I see some screws there.

Here are your parts
Replacement parts for JGB910SECSS models | AppliancePartsPros.com

Here is a manual, it looks like it covers units just prior to your unit but hopefully GE has not changed the design in this area.
31-9008 GE 30 inch XL44â„¢ Series Range Service Manual - ApplianceDigest.com
You may have to join the site to download the manual but it is free and this is a great site for appliance info.

Note: That I have not done this but it looks like you have to raise the top.
With luck someone else will jump in with better info.

I do not think welding is viable as the heat would destroy the switch.

denman,

Hi. Belated thanks for trying to help me. However, I really think that I can get to the switch from the screws below.

Alternatively, I can try to weld the 2 pieces of the broken stem without removing the switch since the bottom piece is sticking out. The problem is that I don't have welding equipment.

Do plumbers weld? If so, I can ask my plumber to bring welding equipment when he comes to hook up the stove to the gas.

Do plumbers weld?

I guess some do.
They will all be able to solder but I doubt that would be strong enough.
Also solder only sticks to some metals.

After talking to some appliance repair guys in my neighborhood, I realized that the way to get to the warmer switch is by unscrewing the 3 allen head bolts under each of the 4 burners. This will then allow me to lift the top of the range and get to the warmer drawer switch.

Does this make sense? Has anyone ever lifted the top of a GE Profile range?

Surely there must be someone who knows how to lift the top of a GE Profile gas range (with sealed burners). I just want to get behind where the knobs are.
