Hi Guys:
I've got a 25 inch Hotpoint refrigerator/freezer model number HSS25IFMD WW. Lost all of my produce in the freezer the other day. Frigerator side warm as well.

Symptoms:
*Condensor fan runs.
*Evaperator fan runs.
*Compressor runs every once in a a while after sitting unplugged for a while. Then after a defrost cycle, compressor doesn't come back on. Condensor fan does come back on.
*Good lights throughout (inside).
*Defrost heater tested good.

So far, I've changed out the defrost thermostat and the evaporator thermistor. Still nothing.

I'm suspecting the mother board. I was hoping to see some damage on the back of the board to give me a clue. The board looks pretty good. The mother board part number is wr55x10037. Anyone know of any problems GE has had with this board?

Thanks so much.

Doug, this is definetly the motherboard. I have seen this a million times, the relay that sends the power to the compressor from the motherboard is degrading. Replace the mother board. Here is the part # WR55X10942 It is located on the back side of the refrigerator, behind a panel. It is a real easy repair. Kind of thought I might be headed down the right trail. I just didn't want to buy the mother board and then have it not fix the problem.

I tried one more thing before I order the new board. I noticed some bad solder on the compressor relay on the back of the board. I cleaned up the solder a bit with my soldering iron and the refrigerator fired right up. It's been running about 12 hours now and been through at least two defrost cycles. Just now it came out of a defrost so I'll just wait a little bit and see if everything fires back up.

Thanks so much Tom.

Soooooo, I've been waiting to hear the compressor fire up. The condensor fan started right when the refrigerator came out of defrost. No compressor.

I let it sit until the freezer got up to about 30 degrees. I then took my nut driver and tapped right in the middle of the compressor relay (on the board). Nothing.

I then tapped right in the middle of the defrost relay (on the mother board) and the compressor immediately fired up.

Tom I think you are correct. One of those two relays are failing and I'll probably have to break down and pick up a new mother board.

Thanks so much for all the help.
