If I insert a folded credit card into the space in the door handle or press on the door sometimes I can get the dishwasher to start. I have taken off the door panel and not sure if it is a micro switch or something loose.
Each time I do this the credit card trick works for a few days then I have to take off the door panel again and push on the microswitch connections on the door handle assembly. Please let me know what to replace because it seems to be just something simple.

should I try and replace the whole plastic handle assembly? If the microswitches were bad would it start at all? Any suggestions would be appreciated. I am not sure which part I need to replace.

Here is the parts breakdown
Model MDB4040AWB

Without actually being there it is hard to say what to order but the parts do look reasonably priced

If one of the switches is starting to stick it could be that it is just on the edge of actuating so only works sometimes.

I would order Item 9 in the Control Panel section, looks like you get the holder and 2 new switches.

I would also check out the Latch Handle (Item 10) for signs of wear or distortion. If you need it you may have to also order the Foam and Pad

Also check the Door Latch Assembly (Item 8 in the Tub section). Looks like AP178692 provides the complete latch assy.

You may also want to check the following while you are at it

Hopefuly someone else can give you a better answer!

Thank you for your suggestions. If I insert a plastic wedge in between the black handle and press the wedge upward with a bit of force (putting pressure on one of the above mentioned parts -?-) the dishwasher runs perfectly. Once I let go of the plastic wedge the dishwasher stops. Just wish I could tell if somethig needs adjusting or if I should just replace "all" of the parts and hope it solves the problem. This all started right after a service person replaced the wire harness for the recall mentioned above. I just let it go too long to complain. At first it was just a slight pressure needed now I have to fuss through the entire wash/rinse cycle.
