I'm really not sure how old my refrigerator is...it was in the house when I bought it. What happens is the refrigerator side won't cool, and the freezer side will have frost on the back wall. If I unplug it for a while and plug it back in it will be fine for a few days. I've had a repair man come out to look at it, and he replaced the defrost timer. He said the lines (or vents...I wasn't here at the time) were plugging up with frost. It was fine for about a week, but then did the same thing. I've looked at an online repair manual and was going to check the compressor relay, but the illustrations were not matching my unit. I don't see a relay compartment. In fact there's not much there except the compressor and fan. I can't afford to have someone come look at it again, and I can't afford to replace the whole thing right now. Would you have some idea's for me to try? Where would my relay be? Is there a site with diagrams matching my unit that I don't have to pay for? I've read through a few of the posts on here, and I love what you have going. I hope you can help me as well. Thank you so much.

The defrost thermostat probably needs replaced too. Cheap part. Part # AP2071262. Or the Defrost heater (look at it first) Part #AP2071523
They will be behind the rear panel in the freezer near the evaporator coils. Use a hair dryer to thaw everything out. Nat

Thank you Nat. I'll start on takin' it apart now. Is there a way to test either one of the parts? I have a continuity testor. No need to thaw it...I've had it unplugged for about a month. I've had two refrigerators in my kitchen for about a month now. I work 3 jobs and haven't been able to take a day to do it until today.

You can test them for continuity with an ohm meter. If it's the heater t should be visible, the glass tubes will be discolored. The def. thermostat has to be cold to test it though.

Thank you again. So much. I'm gonna go tear it apart now. I'm sure I'll be back on to either praise you or ask again. I really do appreciate it. Heidi

Glad to help, I may be gone for a while have to go get my kids' contact lenses. If it's been unplugged for that long it should work fine for about a week or so.

Well Nat, it took less than 5 minutes to find the problem. Sure enough it was the heater. The glass was all foggy grey with a couple of black spots. I took it in to the place I had "fix" it before and the guy there tried to say you couldn't tell by that, but I showed him where the end had seperated and I pulled out the grime and burnt coil spring from inside. I told him a gentleman I talked to that KNEW what he was talkin' about led me in that direction. Anyway...I just wanted to thank you again. I will be ordering the part off of the internet today as neither one of the businesses in town have one available. I hope you have a wonderful weekend. Heidi

Well Nat, just wanted to say thank you again. It took all of about 5 minutes to get into the fridge and find the burned out heater. The spring inside was pretty much dust. Now I just gotta find the part online, neither one of the repair shops in town have it in stock. I hope you have a wonderful weekend. Heidi
