It was a gift about 5 years ago. The machine has 3 settings, one for colors, whites and delicates. When on the whites setting, the tub will not activate during the rinse/spin cycle and the water doesnt drain. My wife says that if she turns the control dial over to delicates-> spin, the tub will drain and spin. This has happened about 10 times in the last month... but she says it doesnt happen every time.

I checked the belt underneath, and it is loose unless I push against the plate that holds the small pulley near the front left-side leg. If I push the pulley or plate, it slides back, causing the tension on the belt to grab the large pulley in the center. When I dont push on said plate, the belt is loose and the large center pulley below the transmission (?) is able to be easily turned by hand.

Any ideas? Do I need a new thrust bearing or does something simply need to be tightened? Thanks!

Sounds like you have sme weak contacts in the timer. I suggest replacing the timer, part # AP251440

That plate is supposed to move.
