Hi. For the last few months our Whirlpool SxS, model #ED5GHEXNL00, has gotten to a state where the fridge stops cooling after a few hours. Depending on when we notice that this happens the freezer contents start to melt and the fridge contents start getting warm. If I give a hard tap to the underside of the cooler control dials (inside top front) I hear the fridge/fan come on and cool air starts to blow out of the vents inside.
I read through your forum and found some similar posts and so I tried some of your suggestions, starting with vacuuming the coils but they are underneath the fridge and I can only get to the front coils and not the ones behind it. I haven't taken the back panel off to check the frost pattern or if the defroster was doing what it is supposed to. I just know that if I tap or strike the underside of the control dials that is "starts up". Can you help?
Regards -
M. Nelson

Thnx for the quick response. I will definitely give it a try. Don't need any special tools do I?

First of all, I must say that I did not expect such a quick delivery of the part after ordering. Not complaining, just pleasantly surprised. But to the point, the thermostat did the trick. I am mechanically inclined so it only took about 15-20 min or so to install and the fridge hase been running as it should.
Thank you for your help and for pointing me to the correct part. I'll definitely recommend this site to anyone seeking DIY-help with their appliances.
Sincerely,
MNelson
