Hello,
I have a Magic Chef oven, model number CGR142OBDW. When I turn on the oven, the igniter comes on, but no gas flows. If I then briefly turn on one of the burners on the stove top, the gas will flow in the oven, and it will heat up normally. Any ideas on what would cause this?
Thanks, Chris Thousand Oaks, CA

Thanks, Chris Thousand Oaks, CA Yes, replace the Ignitor. It is not strong enough to open the gas valve, so when you turn on the burner, you get a quick pressure build up, and it allows the gas valver to stay open. But, you can't use the oven that way. So, for sure, replace the Ignitor. Tom Appliance Educator, Appliance Parts, Washer and Dryer Parts, Refridgerator and Freezer Parts, Stove and Oven Parts

Chris,
I'm having the same problem with my Magic Chef, different model. Does your oven lose temperature after it heats up, unless, you light a burner again? I have to push bake, set temp, and light a burner everytime I need it to heat up. If so, did replacing the ignitor fix the problem?
thanks, kjvangie
