I am very unhappy with my washer. Lately the agitator floats off the center drive post when it fills with water. I have to keep lifting the lid (its a top loader) as the washing cycle progresses to push it done which is very difficult to do. When it does stay down, it agitates perfectly, but as it starts to rise up, the agitating action is slowed to almost nothing, thus leaving undissolved soap powder stains on the clothing. Amazingly, it spins just fine and does not come up then! In fact the rest of the machine cycles are absolutely perfect. I am puzzled. Can somebody please help me?:( :( What is wrong with the agitator??

Is the top cap screwed on the agitator, that is what holds the agitator to the drive shaft. If it is, then your coupling is bad and you need a new agitator.
