I am a very handy person but need to know the spacifics of how to remove my cracked ceramic cooktop from my range and how to replace it with a new top. It is a whirlpool gold black ceramic top. The replacemet cost of the part is arpound $350 which is much less than replacing the unit completly. I dont want to pay for a service call when I can probably do it myself.
Any help would be greatly apreciated

Vmar,

This is Canadian model and I'm not able to find a Service manual for not American models. You can find the break down diagrams here. I hope it will help.

Thank You Gene,
I'm assuming that I only have to remove screws #24 to remove the frame around the cooktop then just replace it with a new one. In your opinion is that all there is to this? If so I'll order the new ceramics today. If not we may just put the money toward a new gas range instead. I wanted to save money but if I have to pay an installer I may as well trade up.
Sincerest thanks,
Vmar

I believe you have to remove a few screws from the front holding the top panel first. You can try to disassemble it before ordering the new part. If one of the options is to replace the whole thing then there is nothing to loose.

Gene.
