A piece of the inlet cover fell off today as I was cleaning the microwave. Can I just cover it with a piece of duct tape? Would it be safe to use? What does an inlet cover do? And where do I find the part to replace it?Thanks for any help you can offer. C Shaw

CS,

Don't quite understand what you mean by "inlet cover".

Is it inside the microwave cavity, or on the outside of the cabinet ?

If it's on the outside of the unit, you can still use the unit,

If it's on the inside of the unit(cavity), I would not use the unit.
(until we find out what part you actually need)

A proper and complete model number, would be a great help.

Thanks,
:) :) :)

Sorry, I thought you could see the model number from my post. It is a Whirlpool, model MH7155XM. The cover is in the center of the microwave ceiling. It had a little protrusion that hung down and it just crumbled when I was cleaning it. We don't know what the function of the cover is. The manual calls it an inlet cover. My husband thinks we can go ahead and use it....I'm not so sure.

CS,

There should be a third letter(a,b,p,t) at the end of the model number, it designates the exterior color, but since this is an interior part, it won't matter.

Here's the part number you will need

Part number: AP3139768
Part number: AP3139768

Your inlet cover, like it says covers your stirrer blade and motor, which distribute the mico waves for an even distribution of heat into the food articles.

As long as there is no hole in the cover, where the protrusion broke off, you'll be OK, at least untill you get the cover kit and get it installed.

Good Luck,

:) :) :)
