My Amana dryer is getting too hot. The clothes have a slight burnt smell, and will physically burn you when you take them out. The exhaust duct is clean with no blockages. The thermostat located on the exhaust duct is supposed to open at 153 degrees, but the exhaust temperature reaches 180 degrees before the heating element shuts off. The thermostat does open, it just appears that is is not opening at the correct temperature. Does this sound like my problem, or is it possibly something in the controls (I don't quite know how the fabric selector and timers operate)? Thanks for any help.

Did you check the vent on the outside of the house?

Yes, the dryer vents directly through an exterior wall and it is as clear as can be.
