Hi all. I have a problem with the Spin cycle. When it goes to spin it is SUPER SENSITIVE now to the balance of cloths in the washer. THis means that most times the spin cycle will start and the tub spins into a noise that sounds like its off-balance, its a loud bang as it spins. Then I open the tub and arrange the items so they fit perfectly balanced and it will continue. The only way I can stop is reducing the weight in the tub.
Obviously this is not normal operating mode because this problem began a few months back and got prgressively worse. From all the posts on the web I think its a transmission issue.... but I'm wondering if the springs need replacement? Me and the handyman a few weeks ago took a look at it. We grabbed 5-6 towels and he loaded it evenly. Ran a cycle and NO NOISE. But when he stopped the cycle and adjusted a towel around he got the noise - It was off balance. AND HE NOTHIGN HE DID COULD GET THE CLOTHS TO BE BACK IN BALANCE.... so I'm asking everyone for suggestions.... Thanks. Frank.

Could be a broken or disconnected balance spring. It's located in the back of the machine inside the cabinet; normally connected between the tub and chassis. You may be able to visually check if you can pull the machine out from the wall and carefully tip it back to look from underneath.

The skate plate and suspention pads need replaced the springs are fine unless one is broken but that doesn't happen very often what causes it is the pads leave a sticky residue on the skate plate and the tub grips on them and causes the tub to get out of balance and bang against the cabinet, replace the suspention and it will run like a new one again while you're at it throw a new coupler on it as long as it's apart

Thanks for the info to both of you. I found the parts. Well. I found the Skate plate which includes pads at APP and saves me money becasue it looks like Sears wants you to repace the whole Brake and drive tube (PN 286792) and they don;t sell the skate separate. you think I should stick with the plate and pads only or replace the whole thing??

Also I am going to replace the Clutch while I am at it as you suggested.

Part # 285792
