MY Dryer quite working and I found out it was the Thermal Fuse. It is still under warranty but I replaced the fuse my self because it was going to take 2 weeks to get a technician to work on it. I have now replaced it 5 times and have had a technican look at it. I have went as far as letting the dryer vent directly in the house with no restricions and it stills blow. The last time I replaced the Thermal fuse I started running some test. I put the dryer on Air only and checked the heat out of the vent. The heating element never shut off and the temperature got up to 150 degress. This sounds like thermastat problem or something but I am having a hard time convincing the Technician of this.

It could be a thermostat but I would check for a grounded element first.
Check the heating coil. Unplug the unit and both wires to the coil. Check it with a meter, should be around 10 to 12 ohms. Then check from each side of the coil to the case/frame, both should be infinite ohms (open). If not the coil may have sagged or broken and is touching the case. This can cause it to run on high and the thermostats cannot regulate it so the thermal fuse blows.
Also could be a bad thermistor or control board.
Note: If it is not a grounded element then you should also replace the hi-limit thermostat as it should have regulated the temperature so the fuse did not blow. |
