My just over 5 year old GE dishwasher developed a low pitch growling noise that is only present during the wash cycle. Almost like a spray arm is vibrating or hitting something when it spins. The growling noise is not always present. Sometimes, the machine will go through a complete cycle and not make the noise.

I checked to see if the washing arms are hitting anything and found nothing. I have removed the lower spin arm and found nothing unusual.

I can re-create a similar growling noise when I spin the lower arm with my hand. It tends to wobble and does not always spin smoothly.

Other then the low pitched gowling noise, the machine works perfectly.

I repaired my noisey GE dishwasher by replacing the missing O ring on the plastic nipple at the rear of the cabinet on the tube that carries water to the middle spray arm. I found the O ring missing. The O ring was approximately 5/8" diameter and fit snugly around the plastic nipple inside the cabinet on the rear wall.
