My freezer and refrigerator is not getting cold or freezing. I bought a freezer evaporator fan motor, but think the one currently installed may be okay. The one I checked is at the rear and bottom of the refrigerator, and functions with electricity engaged. Is there another fan located under the freezer? Also, the compressor is not making any sounds, so not sure if it is shot or perhaps a relay is malfunctioning. Can you help?

Here are your parts Replacement parts for AMANA ASD2620HRB Ref - SXS/I&W | AppliancePartsPros.comYes there are two fans in the unit. Condenser fan Item 14 in Section 2, under/back of the unit. Evaporator fan Item 10 in Section 5, in the freezer compartment. Since you are looking at the fans I am assuming that neither fan runs and the t the compressor also is off. If this is the case you may be stuck in a defrost cycle. Rotate the cam on the defrost timer (Item 9 in Section 3). There is usually a hole in the cover to let you do this. Note: It only rotates in one direction. If the unit fires up I would replace the timer. Here is a good site with basic fridge info. http://www.applianceaid.com/frig.html |

Actually both fans are working, although I am unsure if the compressor relay is functioning...I cannot hear a clicking sound that I have read about. The refrigerator is about 6 years old and out of warranty.

I truly feel the solution is near. (-: Upon manually rotating the cam (clockwise) the condenser fan stopped; when turning the cam again, the fan started. What, pray tell, does this indicate? What should I test next?

Basically what you did was force the unit into a defrost cycle and the run it through this cycle.
All fans and the compressor turn off and the defrost heater comes on.
Next to check would be the start device and the compressor.

Well, my starter checked out...used an "Ideal Volt Sensor" and have current. What is my next move? Oh, Thanks so much for all your help and direction! (-:

Sorry but I do not know what "Ideal Volt Sensor" is.
I have always used a multimeter.
Next I would check the compressor windings for continuity and grounding.
You will need a meter to do this.
The link I provided shows how to do this.
If it checks out OK I would replace the start relay.
Looks like it has been updated and now comes with the capacitor (Item 4 and 8 in Section 2).
OR
You could just get one and give it a try.
Checking the compressor does not totally rule it out as it may have a mechanical problem but if a winding is open or grounded then you know that the compressor is shot and so there is no use trying the start relay.
If the compressor is shot then usually it makes more sense to replace the fridge as the repair will be expensive. |

Hello Denman.
The "Ideal Volt Sensor" is a simple, inexpensive device I bought at Lowe's (less than $10) that checks whether current is present. You hold it close to the wire and the device beeps and lights-up if electricity is present. Therefore, I placed it at the Starter to detect whether current was present.

My starter (the word "starter" is labeled on the device) is to the left of the compressor and is a cylindrical device, about 6-7" long and a little over an inch in diameter. Wires connect to the compressor, but I do not see any other device, e.g., relay connected to the compressor. Do you think the starter and relay are contained in the same device? Do you think the relay inside the starter can still be bad even though I get positive voltage checks?
