My side by side stopped making ice. I think it's a problem with either the emitter or sensor....any past experiences with this issue? Any way of checking the boards before buying the part?

Here is how you check this. Open the freezer door, and look at the icemaker, and look at the fingers that knock the ice out. They should be looking at you. Just above the icemaker horizon. If not replace the motor module. Then you see the black hose, that lets the water in the icemaker. Squeeze it and see if it is hard. If it is, it is frozen, defrost it, and replace the water valve, because water is seeping through and freezing up. If all is well from this point. It is the emitter kit. Tom ApplianceEducator.com

The black tube isn't frozen and the fingers are looking down, not quite at a 45 deg. angle. Do you think it's the motor? Another thing I was suspicious about was the solenoid valve. I believe it has two coils. One felt warm to the touch. Neither felt like they were energized (no magnetism detected on top of either), but one was warm like it might be energized, but stuck closed.
