My dryer is a GE Select, not sure yet of model/serial number yet. In the past 6 months it has started sqeaking, thumping and burning items and causing small tears. Yesterday it just stopped. In trying to see why I realized the drum would not turn more than 1/4 of the way. Further investigation revealed that there is a peice of metal about 1/2 inch that is loose and "chewed" between the drum and the front of the dryer. In looking at it about a good 12 inches is loose, bent and now showing and a second rough loose spat was also discovered. I am assuming that this is what was causing the burns and small tears. My question now is what do I need to fix it? I have done several internet searches and they all keep talking about "glides" but no mention of this metal strip, what it is called or how to repleace it. Help!

You will need the model number.
Model Number Locator

It does sound like the front glides wore out and then the drum ate through the mounts.
It may not be worth fixing due to cost or part availability.
