Heating element staying on in cool down cycle. Could the timer switch be faulty?

The first thing I would do is check the heating coils for short to ground. Remove both wires from the heating element and check for continuity between each terminal to ground. If there is continuity then replace the heating element. - The part number for the heating element AP3109438 Here are the break down diagrams for the Whirlpool dryer Model LEC6646AZ0Gene.

Thank you Gene for your reply! I did as you suggested and you were right! The heating coil was shorted to ground. I appreciated your help!

Hi all, I am having a similar problem with a Roper by Whirl pool electric dryer Model red4440vq1.
If the timer goes through the cycle, the heating element shuts off.:) If I move the timer manual to the off position, the heating element shuts off.:) If I unplug the dryer, the heating element shuts off.:) If I open the dryer door in the middle of a cycle, the heating element stays on until I do one of the first three things. I have replaced the timer with no different results.:(

Check for a grounded heat element. It's either grounded or the motor centrifugal switch is stuck closed, more likely a grounded element.
