Pushed the start button and the dryer did not start. I didn't hear the motor but when I opened the door there was heat. Is this the belt or could it be the start button.

The first thing I would check is the belt.
But it is strange you did not hear the motor.
If you have air flow out the exhaust the motor is running so the belt must be broken.

The motor has 2 centrifugal switches that close when the motor gets close to operating speed.
One is to remove the start winding from the circuit and also provide a circuit path to the motor to keep it running when you let go of the start switch.
The other provides power to the heater coil. This is to ensure that you only get heat when there is air flow.

Since you have heat I am assuming the motor is running.
