My dryer heats up as soon as you turn the control dial to the desired drying setting, but will not tumble. It heats up whether the door is open or not. I have power at the motor and my drive belt is good. The motor will not spin. what should I check next? How do i check the motor?

Here is your parts breakdown. Replacement parts for WHIRLPOOL WED5500SQ0 29"electric Dryer | AppliancePartsPros.comCould be a motor problem. The centrifugal switches on the motor may be activated. The motor has 2 centrifugal switches that activate (close) when the motor gets close to operating speed. One turns on the heat. This is to ensure that there is air flow before the heat element comes on. The other Switches out the motor's start winding (this explains why the motor will not start). It also switches in a circuit path that is in parallel with the start switch so that the unit keeps running after the start switch is released (this explains why it runs without pushing the start switch). It could be that the centrifugal mechanism on the motor is so clogged with lint that it is stuck in the activated position. |
