I took out the compressor and it does rattle (from what I have read, that means it's bad). What do I need to do to fix it. A compressor is expensive (262.00). Do I have any other options? Thank you.

The way your post reads; you cut all the lines to the compressor and shook it to see if it would rattle. If this is the case then if I were you I would buy a new fridge. I just double checked the calender to make sure it is not Aprils Fools Day. Try putting a hard start kit on it. Maytag compressors are known to lock up. The part # for the hard start kit is RCO-410. The directions are on the part. I did see that the specific maytag frig has a recall on the relay and a person is coming to look at it Saturday (and it would be free). I hope that's what it is. You can shake the compressor and it does rattle though?
