MAYTAG NEPTUNE FRONT LOADER MAH5500WW serial#697698222k

will not start, door not locked...I noticed the top of the door out 3/8", after slamming door several times it finally seats flush and the washer will start.

Is their a replacement part? I could not find one for my model or can it be adjusted?

Thank you, Mike

Mike,

A couple of things you need to look at :

First,

You'll need to remove the front panel and raise the top of the unit,

You need to check the front support beam(where the latch assembly is attached), the beam needs to be straight, if it is bent back,(from slamming the door) you need to straighten it, I used to install a small thin washer behind the latch assembly,as well.

You can loosen the door panel screws(bottom and openning side) and "tweak" the door back into shape, shape so it aligns to the opening and is flush with the front panel.

Check and make sure the two hinge screws are tight, and you may want to lift up on the openning edge of the door panel(slightly) so the seal on the bottom is the same from edge to edge.

You most likely have an alignment problem due to usage and the fact that the latch assembly does work.

Good Luck,

:) :) :)

well I dismantled the washer; found the mechanism was angled back, so I bent it forward but found the action to be rough. I sprayed a silicone spray into the mechanism and that made all the difference.

Thanks for the help,

Mike
