The dishwasher was started on normal cycle. It filled with water, dropped soap and stopped before completing wash cycle. Rotating the timer knob manually does not engage pumps.
I opened front panel and verified power into the switch block. I did a resistance test on the door safety switch and it seems OK. There is a neon light on the switch block that has turned black with age and the ON/OFF switch does not always "latch" when pushed. Juggling the ON/OFF switch with the door closed does not seem to run the timer motor.
I don't see any fuses to replace and all the wires seem physically OK as far as I can see. So my guess is that the switch assembly and/or timer is bad. Should I replace both of these parts?

I would start with the switch and see how it will work. You also can check the switch by checking for continuity between terminals 3 & 3a and 4 & 4a. - The part number for the selector switch is AP2804500 Here are the break down diagrams for the Bosch dishwasher Model SMU3036 UC/14 (FD 7507-7902)Gene.
