I have an Amana ARS2464 refrigerator and it is not cooling at all - fan is running and circulating - compresser is working - but i think that there is no freon - might be a leak - how do I test the compressor/leaks - and replace the freon?

how do I test the compressor/leaks Remove the cover in the freezer and take a look at your evaporator coils. If there in no frost on them then you are either out of freon or there is a clogged orifice in the sealed system. To do an actu8al check you will need a pro with a set of guages. If there is frost in one area of the coils (Usually where the freon enters the coils) then you are low on freon. Note: Make sure the compressor has run for a couple hours as there will be no frost if the unit has just completed a defrost cycle.
and replace the freon? You will need a pro to find/fix the leak, evacuate and recharge the freon. This will not be a cheap fix and it often makes more sense to invest the dollars into a new fridge.
You may want to check your warranty. This is a long shot, these days most units only get a couple years on the sealed system. |

Dibos, Without the special meters, guages, tools and refrigerant, You can't really do what you want to do. Have you removed the back wall of the freezer compartment and checked the evaporator coils for a frost pattern ? Do you have an Ammeter or Wattage meter, to check the power draw when the unit is running ? We'll be more than happy to help and direct you, if you wish. :) :) :)

Thank you so much for your quick answer - the unit was plugged in for several days and there was not a trace of frost on the coils - it was blowing just hot air - this is in a seasonal rental home - and none of the guests ever complained about the refrigerator not cooling they only complained of an odor - which our cleaners added boxes of baking soda to the refrig. Now that I was there i realized that the reason there was an odor is because the refrigerator was not cooling at all. thanks again for the quick response - I did purchase a new refrig in the mean time - but thought that this one was in really good condition and it would be a simple fix - might try to get my AC guy to do it
