I've read many posts on many sites but still my wire question on four prong dryer change from three prong hasn't been addressed. I took off the three prong cord, disconnected the thin WHITE wire that runs from behind the block and was attached to the side of the dryer, hooked the red on right, white in middle, black on left and attached the new green to the dryer frame itself where the former thin WHITE wire was.

1) What do I do with the original thin WHITE wire that is still attached to the back of the block (or so it seems ... can't see behind the block) that was originally attached to the screw on dryer frame? I haven't read anything about a WHITE wire being a ground wire ... just GREEN. Was this thin WHITE wire originally the ground wire?

2) Can I attach the thin WHITE wire under the current middle WHITE wire to keep it safe? Is this safe? Or just tuck it back behind the block?

3) Also, where I have attached the new GREEN wire to the side of the dryer, I used the original screw/bolt that was there. There was not a nut on the back of this piece and seems the GREEN wire could possibly disconnect. Is it ok without the nut?
