this is the gas version of the "Atlantis" model of the Maytag. Yesterday it started making a very loud squeaking noise. Checked on the inside of the dry for metal, that's what it sounds like,,,metal grinding !...but found nothing. Trying to get some ideas before I have my husband take it apart. What should we check?
Thanks !

Thanks ! Kim, Your first palce to check is the drum seals, at both ends of the tumbler. Check and make sure there's not a button or zipper, etc. stuck between the felt seal and walls or drum. After that, You need to check, the drum rollers and idler pulley bearings, and front drum glides. Hubby will have to dismantle the machine, but no big deal. We can get him through it... :) :) :)

Hello,
Thanks for the fast response!
Got it dismantled. Looks like the front felt seal is ripped on the top. We can see metal shavings around the outside drum.
Looks like we need a new felt seal...not sure if anything else. Can you help direct ?
Thanks !!

Thanks !! Kim, Have your husband check the Front Tumbler Glides, the two pads located on the bottom support at 5 and 7 o'clock, for excessive wear and tear. He may even want to slip a thin spacer(1/16 ") between the cork pad and metal frame, and lube the glides with a very thin coat of silicone grease. Good Luck, :) :) :)

My maytag Atlantis dryer is now doing this exact thing. More of a grinding sound with metal shavings to-boot. The drum seems to be "offtrack" if there is such a thing... the felt seal is clearly not touching both surfaces unless I "shift" the drum "ontrack".
Any thoughts?
