Dryer only works full cycle in delicate mode, when placed on normal cycle it shuts off after 2 to 4 minutes, vents are clean no unusual noises

Quite often, you'll develop a chemical build up on the sensor bars, they no longer sense the moisture in the clothes and the unit shuts off, because the control thinks the clothes are dry. Let us know what happens, :) :) :)

Morning, there were no stainless steel strips , took the entire lint housing & front cover off, was alot of lint build up, the exact Maytag model number is PYE4500AYW

I am wondering what is the rule of thumb when to not repair a dryer? Mine is a 2002. I worked on it yesterday for about 2 hours, mostly cleaning lint caked up in the front of dryer. I am about to call a service tech today to come out to repair but don't want to put alot of money into this unit when I can but a new one for under $200.00. What's your advice please?

Frosty Frosty, You've got me at a disadvantage, my wiring diagram and parts diagram indicates this unit does have sensor and dryness control switch. But, If it took two hours to open and clean out all the lint in the dryer, I would have to think, you may have solved your problem, You may want to try it again, before you call a servicer. An appliance that's 8 to 10 years old, depending on usage, is about average life expectancy, now a days. If you can get a new dryer for under $200.00, you may want to seroiusly consider it. It will probably cost you at least 1/2 of that for the tech to come out and repair your dryer ???? Good Luck, :) :) :)

Here are your parts. Note that the wiring diagram is incorrect as it is for a gas unit. Replacement parts for MAYTAG PYE4558AYW Dryer - Ele | AppliancePartsPros.comThe moisture strips are Item 5 in Section 3. mounted on Item 6. You have a very strange problem. Early shut down is often the motor overheating and tripping it's internal thermal protect. If you have to wait several minutes before you can restart the dryer then this is probably the case as you have to wait for the motor to cool down and the thermal protect to reset. I do not know why this would be affected by the temperature setting. Could be as Joe said you may have fixed it as lint can cause motor cooling problems. Since there was a lot of lint I would check the unit's internal ducting seals, would also clean the blower wheel. If the moisture strips were dirty I would think you would have the opposite problem. The dryer would run forever as it would think the clothes are still wet and therefore never advance the timer. The control board and sensor strips control power to the timer motor. In timed dry the timer motor gets power directly. Neutral : WHITE : timer contacts N/TM : TIMER MOTOR : timer contacts M/L : L1 |
