Hello all. I have a Whirpool dryer that has been driving me crazy. The problem started when it lost heat. I tried looking up how to fix it online on other sites (before I found this one). I borrowed a multimeter from my neighbor to check the continuity on the thermal fuse and the thermostats, etc. I ended up checking the wrong thing on the one on the thermal coil. So I kept reading and then ended up trying to jump connections to troubleshoot that way. Well, I jumped two purple wires on the operating thermostat and it sparked and turned them black, got very hot. Obviously, those were not ones I should have jumped! So I keep troublshooting and the continuity is good with the MM on everything. I decide to take the thermal coil off and examine it. Sure enough the wire was black and broken. I order one and put it on but now it won't turn on at all. I go through all the points again and test with a MM. I find that the door switch looks bad. I take the connector off and jump it with a wire to see if the dryer would kick on when I hit the start button. It does... but it smells like something is burning (like when a circuit board gets fried). I go get a new door switch and put it on. Same problem now. The dryer won't run unless you hold down the start button. I read on here about people who had to replace the control panel or even heat board. I'm not sure which thing I fried. I looked on your part list on here: Section replacement parts for WHIRLPOOL LER4634JQ1 | AppliancePartsPros.comBut I don't see a circuit board or even heat board. What do you think I cooked and need to replace? Thanks for your time. Mark

Anyone have an idea what happened? Did I fry the motor?

Well, I wanted to order my part here and I've been patient... but I haven't heard back from anyone here yet. I guess I'll look elsewhere.
