My dryer runs but does not heat. I ordered a heating element and it is as big as the dryer door. Do I have to remove the top to replace it. Lost.... no instructions or diagrams came with my part.

This is coming up as a GE dryer. To get to the element you need to take the service panel off on the back and release the belt.

Then open the door and on the upper jam you can take out the screws that hold the top on. After it comes off you can take out the screws that hold the front on, take it off, take out the drum and this will get you to the heating element.

You can examine the element to see if it is broken. If not, check out the thermostats for continuity.
