My Maytag dryer just starting to give off a burning smell a few days ago. I pulled off the front of it and ran it on air fluff with no heat and there was no smell. Once I turned on the heated dry, I could see the coils go orange and heat come from the dryer and the smell came with it. I'm not sure where to start. Why all of the sudden is the heating coils giving off this burning smell or is it not the coils causing the problem?

I also tried cleaning out the lint collection area and ruffled some sory of dust that is more harsher to inhale then insulation. I had to get a mask for it and it was so fine it was going through that. Maybe residue from dryer sheets?

Thanks in advance

Try using a vacuum to clear out as much lint as possible. Clean around the heating coils, air duct and the interior. You could be having a small lint fire.
