Hello All! OK..have spent hours researching this online..but have gotten stuck trying to remove the endcaps on our Kenmore dryer. I must be a total numbskull...cos I've even watched videos where the endcaps on the particular example machine just pop off into the repairman's hands..but these have resisted my advances with a sturdy putty knife..from every angle! The prob is the START KNOB needing to be held for the dryer to run. I just need to get at the console innards to test the relays, etc..so I can get the proper part(s) to install! Please someone!!! Thanks Mucho!!!

Thanks Mucho!!! Jonzo, If I remember correctly, The console end caps are held down, in place by a spring clip that is inserted into an opening in the cabinet top. You'll need a putty knife to insert, in the seam, between the end cap and the top, to remove the control panel and access the switches etc. Good Luck,

Thanks so much, Joe! The endcaps have two plastic legs that insert into the metal top..and then..as you said..have a spring clip on bottom...just back from the front edge...that seems to like being depressed with a putty knife blade from the front of the dryer..pushing back towards the rear.
You were the only one to NOT suggest trying to pry of the endcaps! Thanks so much!
Now am going to mark the wires, then substitute the heater relay for the motor relay, to see if the dryer will stay on after I release the START KNOB.
Thanks so much, Joe!

Thanks so much, Joe! Jonzo, I had a feeling you knew what you were doing, Great job, and a good diagnosis procedure for the relay. We're happy that you're happy, Drop us a line if you need more help. Good Luck, :) :) :)

Hey Joe!
I switched the two relays..and both are working now! I've got a running motor AND heat! Hmmm...well...a couple days ago..when the prob first started with the START KNOB..after the duct tape let go..the dryer stopped..but then started back up again on it's own...so am guessing that the motor relay has a "developing" problem...or that the villian could be in the main board itself?
I guess I'll have to wait for the next occurrence..but am waay better armed now with the help of the great people on this board!
Thanks so much!!!

Thanks so much!!! Jonzo, Intermittent problems are the most frustrating, and hardest to find. You're probably correct with the problem tracing back to the main control board. We're happy that you're happy. Good Luck, :) :) :)
