I have a 1996 model Admiral 27SS refrigerator that has developed a problem. Ice is forming on the bottom of the freezer side. I have not been able to find where the water is coming from. I can see ice under the small collection pan. If it is from defrosting, I don't know how it could miss the pan. The defrost drain hose and small tray inside the freezer are in good shape, hose is not cloged.

I am wondering if the ice maker may be overflowing when filling to make ice, or from some connection. It is forming a lot of ice, about 1/4 inch or less thick, and 3 or 4 inches wide and about 6 or 7 inches long in a 24 hr period.

If anyone can help me with this or has had a simaler problem I would like to know the remedy.

Thanks in advance

Take everything out of the freezer and pull out the back panel. This will expose the evaporator compartment. You may need to chip out the ice, but be very gentle, so you don't break the plastic liner of the freezer. The drain is a pencil-sized hole right in the center, under the evaporator coil. Pour hot water into the drain to melt the ice. If you don't eventually hear the water going through the tube, into the drip pan, the tube is probably clogged, and will need to be (very gently) unclogged.
