evaporator fan does not run. Freezer very cold but not frosted up. what checks to i need to do? is it the fan, thermostat, heater, timer? Got the fridge for garage so i don't want to spend too much on repair. what's my next move?

The evaporator fan motor should run at the same time as the compressor does. If it does not, check for 120 VAC to the motor.

If the voltage is correct, replace the fan motor.

If the voltage is incorrect, check the wires to the motor.

I tested the voltage and it was good so i re,moved the fan motor and inspected. it was rusted up and was not spinning free. i disassembled it , cleaned it, re-assembled it and plugged it up. much to my surprise it started right up and is running well! One problem: i don't know if i connected the leads the same way they came off. Which direction is the fan supposed to spin? Should it blow air into the freezer or draw air into the coils?

The connection of the leads does not make any difference if you assembled the motor exactly the same way it was. The picture from the previous reply can be an example.
