An electrical "pop" was heard coming from the microwave then the lights on the control panel went off. The circuit breaker did not flip off. The microwave no longer works. What happened? Is it something I can repair?

You can do it yourself if you know how to use a simple multimeter. You have to turn off the power to the unit and discharge the capacitor before do anything else. Gene.

It is sad that I don't know what a high voltage capacitor looks like, where it is located in the microwave, or how to discharge a capacitor. Any additional details and safety precautions are appreciated.

I would recommend to call a qualified tech to do it for you. Gene.
