Had trouble with coils in freezer icing up. Checked the heater and thermostat and showed no problem. Check adaptive defrost board and it showed it was not working. Ordered a new one and installed it. Fridge and freezer quit working altogether. Still have power to lights but compressor wont turn on. Put the old board back in and the compressor starts and cold air starts blowing but will still have icing up problem in a couple of weeks. Could the new adaptive defrost board be defective and if so how can I check it, or am I looking at some different problem?

Yes the defrost board could be defective, at least that is the first thing I would try.
