I have a second hand GE Refrigerator that has a whistling sound coming from the freezer section. The sound is very like someone blowing across the top of a empty pop bottle. It usually slowly varies in pitch and volume and sometimes goes away completely.
It appears to come from the motor/fan assembly which is behind the automatic ice maker. I believe that this is just a recirculating fan for the freezer compartment.
When I move the tempo control to a warmer or off position (and the motor stops) the sound also stops and usually does not come back for 1-2 hours. If I stop the rotation of the blades manually it also stops.
It doesn't matter if the door open or closed - it is uneffected by door position.
Please help

You have a bad motherboard in the back, AP4436216, it is sending a scrambled square wave to the evaporator motor. Will stop when the fridg door is opened.
