My neighbor has a problem. Says her microwave "smells like burning plastic and does not heat." She had a Kitchen aid repair person come out and said that it was a transformer and would cost approx. $1200. I found out that there are two transformers and I don't know which one it might be. Also how do you access the transformer area easily? Any help is appreciated. Thanks

My neighbor has a microwave problem. She says that it smells like burning plastic and will not heat. A Kitchen aid teck said it was a transformer and would cost approx. $1200 parts and labor. There appears to be more than one transformer so I don't know which one it might be. I also don't know the easiest way to access the transformer. Any help will be appreciated.

Here is the Service Manual you will need to service this wall oven combination.

You should be fine with the repair.

Jon,

Sounds like the problem is a shorted high voltage transformer (#34 on the diagram). $1200 for such repair is unbelievable.

You can find all instructions in the Service manual.

- The high voltage transformer Part number: AP2929274
